Marooned

Marooned in the morass under the moonlight,
Watching the contours of your shadow fade away,
Drunken and drenched in sorrow,
I stand and stare,
A Lunatic, a madman, a lover they say I am,
But I say,
I am just,
Nostalgic.

Nostalgic?
Oh yes!
I grow nostalgic,
Of the love that betrayed,
Of the promises made to be broken,
Of the dreams woven that died in infancy,
Of the hope that vanished in thin air,
Of the utopian life I had once dreamt of,
For me and you,
Those which were brazenly murdered by you,
Oblivious,
You are oblivious,
Of the promises you made,
Of the hearts you played with,
Of the lives you obliterated,
Of the countless heartbeats felt for you,
Of the serenades chomped by you,
Of the memories colonialised by you,
Yet,
In my heart,
You reside.

Only for today on this watershed moment,
Did I dare to cultivate a thought to leave you.

To forget that transient yet all conquering smile,
To shrug off the gravity of those silken soft hair,
To not be enamored of you and those unalloyed eyes,
(That’s so hard to do man!)

Yet amid my bleak and melancholic alcoholic trance,
And an erratic cascade of emotions,
My heart, desolate and lunatic, incarcerated in manacles of your love,
Writhes in pain yet vouches for that reciprocation that will not come,
For that transient ephemeral smile,
That will not bloom again (at least for me)

Yet,
I stand and stare,
Sunken eyes praying for slumber,
That will not come,
Coz,
Here I am
Marooned in the morass.
