After Anzac 1991. Worth Fighting For?

We left behind the hills and dales
The factories and farms.
And we left behind our loved ones
When we heard the call to arms

And in some the hearts were heavy
And in others they were high
For blind fortune does not tell to man
Who'll live and who will die.

And some succumbed to torture
To bayonet, gas and shell
Some died in screaming agony
And dammed the War to Hell

Some died amid the bitter snows
Or tropic jungle trails.
Some died on land and sea and air
In search of Holy Grails.

We fought to stop oppression,
We fought to keep the oil.
We fought for Empire, lust and greed,
And the fruits of others toil.

We fought in Roman Britain,
And in the Holy Land.
At Waterloo and Mafeking,
And at Witwatersrand.

We fought at Flanders and Tobruk,
Korea, Vietnam.
We fought for Hitler, Ho Chi Min,
We fought for Uncle Sam.

And some rejoiced in pleasure
At the fame that medals brought.
While others stayed at home and cried,
And wondered why they'd fought

They remembered fallen comrades,
They remembered shattered wives.
They remembered stupid orders,
And the stupid waste of lives.

And they've seen the years go rolling by
And they've seen it all again.
And they know that it will never stop
As long as there are Men.

But if we're looking for a fight
That tests our sterling worth,
Let us fight one last great battle
That will save the planet Earth.

Let us fight against pollution,
Let us fight against the greed.
Let us fight against the poisons,
Starvation, want and need.

Let us fight to save the hills and dales,
Let us fight to save the farms.
Let us fight to save our loved ones.
Let us heed the call to arms!
