hear his echo

Shard's of emotion
glittering splinters
of shattered illusion's
yet, I value them far more

My Brother's Keeper.

He calls at half past midnight
speech slurred
and I see my fathers face
hear his echo
in the pain of a taller man,
'Tell me you love me because..I need to hear it'
I slip into my mothers shoes
but she had smaller feet
though I, have a better head for heights
and a stronger stomach,
for life's remorseless sins,
so I listen, with weeping ears
devoid of magic wand
cursed with this poets soul
that cannot write a happy ending
for this..is not a perfect world,
love dies, screaming, bleeding,
writhing in her pain,
offering no blindfold
just cries for help
that fall upon deaf prayers,
yes, I could share my wisdom
gleaned from a thousand ugly deaths,
where suicide was painless
but murder left a gaping wound,
so I bite my bleeding tongue,
offer cold comfort to your liquor scented mind
that felt the need for human contact
from blood that binds and I realise
the sands have shifted,
torch passes to my hand
re-affirming what I've always known,
till death descends I am,
my brothers keeper..
