I stand in a garden of pretty things, all of which have bloomed
Though I wish to hear the sounds of Spring, I fear I’m out of tune
I fold in on myself one layer after another and then
Develop some thorns just in case one day I should need them

I used to find comfort in silence and solitude,
Taking time to allow the stress of the day,
The worry and doubt to recede in my mind.
But now instead of hiding all thought away

There are many ways to love,

The outer edges of paperbacks turned up at the corners

Across the moonlit painted skies
The lonely windows weep
And in their faces candles creep
Much to the night's demise

Oh how you haunt me,
blessed memory of my beloved!
