B.L. Louter Poems

Please remember me the way I was
in the heat of august
With bright rays
Illuminating our flesh
...

Towering oaks and lapping lakes
Listless joy and buoyant mirth
Stabbed by a leery flake
Collected with a frozen rake
...

As the first leaf falls, so does the feather
The rain and the sun dwell together
Flutter away to your nest,
Your in the East and I'm in the West
...

Theories Of Summer

Please remember me the way I was
in the heat of august
With bright rays
Illuminating our flesh
Coloring our cheeks
Darkening our bodies
Just as the night
Found the dark in our souls
and eyes
And brought forth silver
from the driest of ground
As unexpected as an earthquake
As sudden as lightening
Quiet, except for your chest
Rising and falling
Oxygen filling your teeming veins
with life
So moving and awe filled
The sky might have bled
The plates under my feet split
Blessed earth ground to powder
So fixated
entranced
By this being...
Firmament hid its face
from such brilliance
Least my sight was withheld
Gripped by a palsy of such magnitude
it seemed a sin
The land remained intact
Science laid down its weary head
closing bloodshot eyes
Why struggle against forces immortal?
Powers beyond your own
Understanding simple in word,
with mirrored images
reflecting tenfold visions
Each with greater clarity and depth
than the prior
No, the poor beast
had no business meddling
In the sublime
His mandate was logic,
not to be questioned
Cogs and gears
Pistons and rhythms
Whole, Logical, Immaterial
Simplistic in scope, without mystery
Explanations demanded
At least assumed if method fails
Blaming anomalies
Chemicals
Gusts of wind
and evolution
Where technique cannot satisfy reason
Every story declared a legend; a myth
If there is an imbalance
When the numbers
Take on their own life
When bones and muscles
Create more than mechanization
Mouth's create more than nouns
Skin more than shield
Eyes more than optics
When the Body becomes Immortal
Connected invisibly
Through no cord or belt
No instruments of science
Nothing to explain
The quickening pulse
The fiery gaze
and swelling chest
The bleeding sky
and splitting ground
Produced the necessary element
The clear notes of a chorus explain it best
Yearning summer skies sing of it
Waiting to caress those willing
Embraced by this act of cosmic defiance
Pulling the kingpin
And dancing for joy
As the iron wheels fall and shatter
Like clay on the grassy earth
Now let me see that dark light,
with its clear hues
Once more
While the moon is at its zenith.
