To Boris Karloff

You were so young,
too young to give up.
There is so much more to you than you’ll ever know.
I know what it’s like to wear shoes you have to grow into.
After seeing you howl at the moon with such confidence and zeal,
And then seeing the contrast to that,
Seeing your sweat and tears,
Hearing you admit you didn’t want to be your brother
because your afraid to join the army,
Knowing that no matter how hard you tried
you were destined to fail,
helped me to know that I could relate.
I know you don’t believe in God,
But I pray for you.

“People claim mountains and skydive to find themselves,
but I know that‘s not you.
I know that’s not your style.
Besides it’s really hard to find yourself
when you‘re worried about asphyxiation!
I just hoped you have really learned
that you don’t need a mad scientist
to build a better man out of you
and that silver bullets won’t kill you either.”
