Eyes On The Shadows

You slip and slide into oblivion
Taking two steps forward
Then another backward falters
Your eyes on the shadows always
Your heart in the light of a new day
Fingers hold tight to this moment
But grip must slacken as doors slam
I walk beside you on this journey
Knowledge tucked away for rains
That run down my face swiftly
Washing away hope from memories
Silence our companion as we move
To new eras, looking over shoulders
I have to stay and bide my own time
Yours is coming like a train racing
The track goes only one way
