I made a summer's day trip over to the seaside,
Kicking back on my deckchair, watching the watery tide.
But then you caught my eye, you the swimmer,
When you dived into the water after the sky became dimmer.
You were beautiful, and I just couldn't resist;
I dived in after you, hoping that I could be kissed.
Underwater seemed like such a quiet atmosphere,
I got your attention and you summoned me to come here.
You said above water-level that you could read my mind,
And accurately guessed it was you I wanted to find.
You gave me bad news and said it was never going to be,
But added that there are still plenty more fish in the sea.
But I stared into your watery eyes and was so not afraid
To tell you, "But girl, YOU are the only mermaid."
