The Best Poem Of Carole Miles

Emotion

Wounded fingers coalesce like a butterfly
Wings deprived of flight
Iridescence dimming
With each frantic beat
Staccato movement that betrays desperation
Then….
Stillness
Silence, like winter death
Cocoons our mortality
Freezes it in a time of pain
Suspended animation
Emotions on hold
Fingernails crack and break
