One Or Two

there can only be one
face you think of, now. one

face you think of, the one
before you sleep. the one

you see before your one
finger signals 'just one'

to the hostess, cause one
face is far and no one

else will do but that one.
so you eat alone. one.

i am one face, the one
that searches for your one

pair of eyes. ok. two.
one pair of eyes is two

eyes. but yours are the two
that for me are the two.

your two eyes are the one.

if one and one are two,
one is needed by two.

two is really just two
ones, who choose to be two.

so why does always two
become one plus one, two

separate ones, when two
together's new: it's two!

why two ones won't stay two:
a question for your one.

I'd lose one to be two.

without you, i'd stay one.
