My Mother's Dog

I glance across at my mother's dog,
The thing that looks quite dead,
With its swollen eye,
And the teeth, that are decaying in its head.

A smell rises from its abcess,
As it tries to stand,
But its crippled legs are buckling,
So its fall looks rather grand.
