Celestine Ikwuamaesi Poems

Your voice, lap of flowing stream
Across howling space.
Your face beams a lover's dream
From afar making the heart race.
...

Don't ask,
who splashed my daughter
with dungy water?
Don't ask,
...

Wind sweeps the clouds, leaving scorching rays.
The sun blazes, hides his face; the star winks away
his age. But the moon, in regal float, bares her
bumps and crags, unruffled by sun's piercing glare.
...

They taught me at Sunday school
that the Spirit's wind; and cool.
On a night cool and windy,
my eyes were wide and flinty.
...

A lizard lies in the sand,
In a blazing tropic sun.
Three kids chuckle under a shade,
Starring at the calm being.
...

Just your passing look,
a flashing smile;
My life isn't the same,
no, not once.
...

The moon floats, shines, fully bright;
offers a landing pad for a night flight.

When love crackles in the heart
...

In a wink,

she lit up the room, a morning star;
a sunflower swaying,
...

Out on an early morning stroll,

while people roll in bed, snoring,
encore on dreamy shores, I looked up.
...

I love my country Nigeria,
though marred by malaria.
I've a bouquet of sweet aria,
blooming in my heart's rear,
...

Every season has a message
meant to stir the human reason.
Easter isn't just a rite of passage
but God speaking in due season
...

Human rights, a chime so gay;
The world, a vanishing ray.
All we need is time; time
For the end of the chime.
...

The sinner's debt has Jesus paid,
And saved the world from Satan's raid.
'Death, death, ' rang from hell;
And thus did sin's death knell.
...

Sudden storm at the turn of noon;
tender twig snaps down rustling stream.
The vine sees it ripple to sea,
stares at love, yearns for sweeter hug.
...

When heart snaps and eye runs dry,
lips lock up. The soul wails aloud
in silent communion with Heaven;
a tear straggles burrowing furrows.
...

Take me back over space and span
to how it was and should be.
Plant me in the air of the age
when virgin world was fun:
...

Nothing

Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Heaven's Armies!
The whole earth is filled with his glory! —Isaiah 6: 3

Flowing Stream

Your voice, lap of flowing stream
Across howling space.
Your face beams a lover's dream
From afar making the heart race.

Our eyes like morning dew blink
As bees flitting on flower.
The sun crawls, our glasses clink,
We crane at the watchtower.

As each moment's delay ticks
My day with unveiled smile,
I hug heaven's dress code, fix
My gaze, enthralled by the style

You chose for the bridal train.
I wish I could wing the sun,
Make your coming swift as rain.
Waiting for the day isn't fun

Like watching a rooster flap,
About to crow, neck stretched.
All day, I avoid a nap,
Living by faith that fetched

Me strength to hold on, sleeping
All night, my right eye peeping.
