Three

Black and white
I've lost the grey
My tongue is tied
And cannot say

I take a breath
But let it go
It floats away
And tells me so

One and one and one make three
And somehow that makes nine to me

But nine's a rainbow jump rope
Broken, in the trash
Buried in the bottom
To hide an action that was rash

Like the chafing of my chubby thighs
Or the pain behind young eyes
That grew too old and couldn't cry
Or look at yours to say goodbye.
