There's a lady downtown in gold
And she's waiting for you to pick her up
She's counting her dollar bills
Asking herself, "what am I doing"

The day my father die
He held his bible by his bed side
The life he prayed would never go
Has gone and left him with no under toe

The evening wind of the past
Brings forth the shadows of the last
The night's black sky
The moon's blue eyes
...

Jumping for the telephone line
Momma says my babies gone
Went to the bar with some other guy
Would not be surprised if she ends up on his bed side
