And oh so true
Hot - jazz - flash
And gold-toned sax

Lately I hung clinging tightly
Against small gusts of fortune
Torn off by time and summer’s going
I circle and dance like a leaf in the wind.

Sleep takes us all, night after night
Some to rest and some to woe,
Until the sleep that ends in light
And takes us far from all we know.

I want to learn, in time, to walk on water.
My faith, constantly being put to the test
Fails me most often, tossed on the waves
Of our reasonable and unholy age.

Once, upon a high and windy place,
Above a sweet, secluded rocky cove
I waited, looking out across the sea
While day gave way to summer’s evening glow.

I took my little Christopher
On an outing to the zoo.
We saw elephants and hippos
And a baby kangaroo;
...

They only gave her seventh place
When, at last, her father died,
And she tried to write a poem
About the pain she could not hide.
...

Always weeping, forever dying,
The sacrifice of love goes on.
It pours itself into the world
Becoming ground we walk upon.
...

Pillars of dust
Walls of lust
Foundations of snow
Build houses of woe
...

How deep the grave to hold
Our world which has grown old
With countless lives untold
