A Daughter's Love

O' Death!
So tall and broad.
Why have you come?
Am I to see God?

O' Death!
So dark and cold.
Why do you walk towards me?
For I am not yet old?

O' Death!
Whispering in my ear,
what was and what is.
Is my time so near?
Please do not have me Death.
Life is so dear.
Will you not compromise,
and come back next year?

O' Death!
I bargain with my kin!
You shall have a bride
worthy of great sin!

O' Death!
Will you pardon me tonight?
If by offering my daughter,
can I again see the light?

O' Death!
Thank you for this covenant!
I promise to return with you,
in a year henceforth!

O' Death...
So gentle and soft.
Why must you intrude upon me?
When my doings are still aloft?

O' Death...
My you have changed.
From tall to short,
and from broad to thin.

O' Death...
Can you wait no longer?
My year has gone and past.
And I have nothing else to offer.

Why do you cry?
It's your job,
to have me die.
