Daniel Donohue Poems

The fog settles thick and heavy
Covering its captives in a goose feather quilt
Stitched from the supple fabric of uncertainty
Leaving those within to stumble and wander
...

We don’t appreciate our shared soles
The kings within us pushing each other away
We sink from the sun
We make shade of the living
...

We find ourselves in tubes
Hallways, roads, walkways
Rivers, flowing into tributaries
Classrooms, workplaces, homes (with more hallways still)
...

Goose Down Fog

The fog settles thick and heavy
Covering its captives in a goose feather quilt
Stitched from the supple fabric of uncertainty
Leaving those within to stumble and wander

All brightness is dulled and expanded
Lights turned to soft glowing orbs
Strangers pass
Deep gazes become strained longing squints

A soft laugh shared between friends
Walking only paces ahead
Heard and unseen
Drifts carelessly into the grayness

The fog settles thick and heavy
Awaiting the warmth of light
Strong enough to part its sheets
Strong enough to endure
