in the way the air weaves
around us
when time is thin

like a crack in the wall
spider cracks
creeping up an old stone building

i saw you
in the field
no boy or girl
within sight

like chariots
racing about my head
i think they are on fire
and closing in

my body parts are for sale
a dime a dozen
'i'll take the liver'
'and i'll take the lungs'

my friends tonight
are werner, conely
bukowski, baril
vonnegut, smith
...

funny how things work out
sometimes
and other times it
seems as if nothing at all
...

the window i can see from my own
looks into nothing
and no one ever looks out
of the window
...

in the morning
that fifth of vodka
hits you like
a wall of water
...

the popping noise
began the
descent
of the large oak
