David Ritter Poems

Sitting here all alone
thinking, just how much you've grown
You're growing up, you're almost two
My joy the first time holding you
...

If I'm unable to write again,
for this doomed world will soon pass me by,
I feel impelled to pen a few lines,
that may fall under your teary eye.
...

Joe sat in his gloomy dark cell,
staring at the black walls of stone.
When a recurring thought of her,
reminded him he was alone.
...

Of all the seasons in the year
Springs the one that makes me cheer

For longer days and a brighter sun
...

Concerned, I said 'yes.'
I hung up the phone.
This Halloween night
I would be alone.
...

My sweet Jesus I call out to you.
Oh sweet Jesus what am I to do?
If ever I needed you now is the time.
Search my heart I'm sure you will find.
...

I rest here in my mommy's womb,
a home I'm pleased I found.
Unaware of a coming doom,
I'm sleeping safe and sound.
...

I want you to meet my best friend.
I've known him for many a year,
and his love for me knows no end,
with strength like that whom shall I fear?
...

We have all betrayed the Lord
in our lives at various times
But the secret is to admit our sin
When the convicting Holy Spirit shines

David Ritter Biography

Many of my poems chronicle a lifelong struggle with the ups and downs of everyday life. Many writing’s have a personal significance, others are only an idea I came up with. Sometimes I prefer not to reveal the difference, leaving the reader to come to their own conclusion. This is a warning, not to assume that all my writings pertain to my life personally. Most of my poems rhyme because I like the challenge and are simply more fun. They are direct, full of a variety of emotions, and have a message or meaning of social significance that most common folk can understand and relate too. I would much rather touch someone’s heart than their brain, rather than use imagery with the flowery words and metaphors that most people don't understand. That’s not to say I don't use these tools, but that I try to keep it simple, in hopes to reach out and touch more people. These poems, quite frankly, describe the beliefs and feelings of one man about a world that was and at times still easy, hard, sad, happy, fair, unfair, kind, evil, lovely and full of hatred. The Best Poem Of David Ritter

My Precious Daughter (Revised)

Sitting here all alone
thinking, just how much you've grown
You're growing up, you're almost two
My joy the first time holding you
There's an empty feeling in my heart
because we are so far apart
It was so hard to say goodbye
I remember curls, and big brown eyes.

Lately I've been really sad
please don't forget that I'm your dad
I'll never forget my favorite girl
the greatest thing in this big world
If I had one wish, it would surely be,
for you to come and live with me
I know it's what every dad would say
But I know your mom would say 'no way'

If your mom and I could share
I could show you Cassie how much I care
Leaving you wasn't what I'd planned
maybe someday, you'll understand
I never missed anyone so much, not ever!
You will be a part of me forever
I'll come back, I just don't know when
I have to keep missing you, till then

I'm starting to cry like running water
I love and miss my precious daughter
