Dominic A. Okoliko Poems

Let all hearts break into joy
With gratitude boiling
Beyond containing measure
For the great pleasure
...

It's a lovely day
Let all worries give way
Take notice, Ágwu oj'Da is here
let his smiles weigh on your wares
...

Take a turn to visit
The Christmas crib
In the odd scenes of our cities
Where the poor born King
...

Do you not hear
The whispers of the wood
Crying Christmas is here
Let our joys be full
...

On the wings of the wind
Wheel it away
2016 and all its strings
Toss it away into past days
...

Come, let's follow the yellow in the rainbow
Mind not the tremor but keep firm your grip
Even if the clouds were to shake
As if their wears were to tear off
...

If your idea about being a boy
Is to cause another a boil,
Then you've got it all wrong
"Cause you're no strong;
...

Phenomenal,
That's what you all are;
Women of substance
With shining earthstar,
...

And it's all about her
she's everything low and high
a sweet shadow under which to rest
The bellow that dispels a child's pest
...

Broken and shared like crumbs of bread
Here is food enough for you and for me
Come round the table where love is ne'er spared
Come have your full and sing songs of glee
...

When storms gather
The sky cries
Yet you feign def
To the crackles in your inn
...

Let the sun never goes down
Let its brightness on us shine
Hang your coats and gowns
And come, let's keep a feast
...

A New Year

Let all hearts break into joy
With gratitude boiling
Beyond containing measure
For the great pleasure
Of witnessing a New Year

Like a sweet soft flowing streams
The year has swept our feet
Washing us with elation
And drawing close our dreams
For greater actualisations

Like mist amidst the greens
Yesteryear has disappeared
Shoved into past bin
And replaced by a new year
So immaculate and clean

Take no rush with your boat
But roll roll roll on gently
Onward and upward go
Doting every node with your tent

But take note, you're not alone
So boast not of the vast rich coast
Instead, learn from the tombstones
Nor are you to fear any ghost
Or the drooping of hailstones

Amidst that too
You can be atop
Floating bright above the blue
Only keep your gears atop

Your will, love, and faith
These trinity gemstones
Of Christmas gift
Shall take you across many milestones
