My heart is still young
But I feel out of place
Almost non existent
Not part of the race

Ship lay up in the bay
Till east wind abates it stay
Perhaps they wait for orders till
It’s on their way the holds to fill
...

Sleepless nights belong to me
As if that’s all there is to be
My nights seem oh so long
Thoughts buzzing round my head
...

What’s life without purpose
I guess something near hell
...

Have you ever noticed
When some people talk to you
They always want to say their bit
And never listen, true!
...

6.

Alas night brings forth the dawn
The daylight shouts that tis morn
And aching limbs steal forth from bed
First tiresome bod then aching head
...

Walk cliff paths of Cornwall
And all its majestic past
You will see the occasional fisherman
From which his rod is cast
...

Inflexibility how I hate you
So intolerant no benefit of doubt
So inconceivably intolerant
Your totally evil is your shout
...

There’s nothing I like better
Than a good old British brew
In fact I’d go one better
And have not one but two
...

10.

I know as children we all say
We have the greatest mums
But my mums something special
Not just goods at sums
...

To wish you Happy Birthday
May seem inappropriate now
But there’s always time to celebrate
And look beyond the brow
...

To Lie in wait for death
While cancer has its sway
With family surrounding her
Outside a gloomy day
...

The birds they sing so sweetly
Beneath the canopy
Of trees arranged so neatly
In the shadows you can see
...

No pain no gain I here you say
At the end of the day someone has to pay
Put the cost of living up if you may
The wealthy do not suffer
...

For us such rarity a site
To see around us virgin white
Like fitted carpet wall to wall
Not one footprint I recall
...

The fellowship to which belong
Starts with worship and with song
The company of angels there
Lift voices sweet beyond compare
...

Be content in all that you do
Inconsistency only makes you feel blue
Like chasing the sun on a cloudy day
Makes heart faint, takes your peace away
...

Winter's gloom put to bed
Springtime brings new things
Long cold nights set aside as dead
Springtime new life brings
...

Come now Holy Spirit
In this holy hour
Speak to hearts receptive
Fill us with your power
...

20.

Time seems to pass one by
April, May June, July
Springtime summer autumn to
Winter comes with feelings blue

The Best Poem Of Don Pengilly

Still Young

My heart is still young
But I feel out of place
Almost non existent
Not part of the race

This is the trouble
With getting old
You can go to some places
And feel out in the cold

Your heart is still young
But your face doesn’t fit
To many wrinkles
Wearing old fashioned kit

Oh to hell with what others
Others may think
I’m going to stay young
And down with a drink

I’m still in the running
I’m not past it yet
I can keep up with most
If not the jet set

Time will of course
Catch up with me
The old body gives out
And you slip at the knee

Staying young in my mind
Is important to me
It’s what keeps you going
It’s part of the key

So remember dear friend
It’s all in the mind
Your still in the race
Still part of mankind

DLP 1/1/2008

Age of body matters not;
it merely is a vessel.
A simple message not forgot;
it's the mind with which we wrestle.
