Doris Niswonger Poems

The winter comes silently
In the night to blanket God's creation.
Awaking to the splendor of a winter
Morn is breathtaking,
...

There is something charming about a small town
Where the living is good
And the greeting is pleasant.
A warm expression is on many faces,
...

When I gaze out the window,
At all the beauty You've created,
I'm reminded of 'Solomon
In all of His glory was not arrayed
...

I love this land of ours,
America, the land of the free
And the home of the brave.
She's proud, but yet humble,
...

The melody of a stream babbling
Over rocks sets my heart to dancing.
The cadence is harmony in the music
Of nature. The warbling of cardinals
...

Sleep my precious one
After the weary work of day.
Dream sweet dreams of fun
In paradise far away.

The Beauty Of Snow

The winter comes silently
In the night to blanket God's creation.
Awaking to the splendor of a winter
Morn is breathtaking,
Its hushed beauty - enchanting.
The sun peeps out from the gray sky,
Creating a scene that sparkles with diamonds.
Crabapples - dried up - prunelike,
Blanketed with heavenly white,
Laden down, hiding their features
Under tiny puffs of frigid, thick cotton.
The little greek maiden on the lawn
Wears a pillbox hat of ermine in olden style,
As she overlooks the pool for fish.
Chairs left out from warmer days
Are adorned with fluffy, white pillows - so inviting.
A hazy gray like film envelopes the atmosphere making it
The thing from which dreams are made.
