Edward G Poems

It took me a while to know your game
You don’t let anyone easily make a name
Complacency and temptations are your ancient tools
To beat the wisest and make them look like fools

Every Sunday after church, there is so much that I decide
But by mid week, I have already changed the sides
My resolutions to be blameless and just
Often fails to the world’s attractions and lust
...

It took me millions of years to give a climate that suits thee
But you took just 100 years to ruin it, and made it so rough
By drying my rivers, poisoning my seas, polluting the sky and cutting my trees
It's time for action and change, calling me ‘mother' isn't enough.

People wait for Birthdays to celebrate it in a special way
But the joy and happiness quickly withers away
They praise you with just lips for many things and qualities
Never meant from their heart, but were just modern formalities

Life Behold, Here I Come

It took me a while to know your game
You don’t let anyone easily make a name
Complacency and temptations are your ancient tools
To beat the wisest and make them look like fools
You almost convinced me that my goals are in vain
Life behold, here I dream again.

I loved my friends, you turned them into foes
Repaid my trust with betrayal and woes
Turned me into an animal with my innocence lost
Thought everything was for sale and everything has a cost
But the joy of forgiveness has healed all my pain
Life behold, I will trust again.

You have turned the most beautiful women into a complete bore
By throwing into our romance your trivial chores
Laughter is dead. Silence rules.
Marriage seemed like a trap, only for fools
No more taking her for granted, indifference and disdain
Life behold, I am romancing her again.

Chasing the wind, I overlooked a simple truth
To secure my old age, I am trading my youth
The laughter, the joy that’s in the antics of my little girl
When compared, even Paradise sounds a little dull
My children are my wealth and my play’s characters main
Life behold, I will be the world’s best father again.

Pride has given birth to the ugly modern greed
The more things I acquire, even more things I need
Only few have been awakened, only few have been freed
From this insatiable lust of things, you gave us all to feed
But I will break free from your bondage and chain
Life behold, I am contended again.

With a smile I will face you, with a smile I will fight
Striving always to be true and striving always to be right
Making my choices according to what is good in only God’s sight
Then His mercy will guide me and make me a man upright
Pity that this is an unfair battle, for you would’ve never won
Your final blow will only take me, to my God in heaven
I’ll show you how to die peacefully, with no regrets and complain
Life behold, you will never see a man like me again.
