Erica Burke Poems

Dearest pillow that is in my bed,
Why do we seldom meet?
For on you tonight I will rest my head,
And I’ll hope that it’ll be sweet.
...

I want you to...

Hold me when I'm crying,
And even when I'm not,
...

Smiles make the earth go round,
They make it move a little faster,
Smiles pick life up off the ground,
They make memories that will last forever.
...

It's not as if I spend my day just sitting by the phone,
And if you called I very well may pretend I wasn't home.
I know you think you have my heart just hanging by a string,
But you should know that my life is built on more important things.
...

My mother, always a gentle woman,
As far as I have known,
Loves her children, loves herself,
Worked herself to the bone.
...

Oh peanut butter cup,
Why do you do this so?
I love you as a new born pup,
And this you need to know.
...

I love you more then my blue jeans are blue...
I love you more then the quarter back his football...
I love you more the the blue jay coo's...
I love you more then the mayor his hall!
...

Faithful, never Forgotten, and Kind,
Obvious even to the blind,
Kept in the forfront of the mind,
Is my love for you!
...

Awkward silence,
Evil glare,
He belongs with me,
Not over there.

The color of ruby red with dots of yellow mixed in,
Little Jonny Apple Seed,
And gravity at work.
Look close and see,

I hear the music,
I feel the beat,
I'm about to lose it,
But want to keep,
...

I am the kitten at your feet,
I love you and I only want love from you,
I am always number two because I am afraid to be number one,
I am the smile from an old friend,
...

God is my Teacher; He tells me when I am going wrong.
Yahweh will give me a test, only so I can figure out what I need to study.
He gives me strength. He is the only one who can and will hold my life together when the glue seems to come apart at the seams.
When my family fails me, God will exceed.

I almost went to see my friends tonight where,
We almost would have gone to the movies and,
They almost would have talked me into getting a beer,
I almost won the fight.

If I did not need my faith, I would have burned it.
For what has faith in life ever done for me?
I had faith, but then I lost it.
Only then it occurred to me,

Ode To My Pillow

Dearest pillow that is in my bed,
Why do we seldom meet?
For on you tonight I will rest my head,
And I’ll hope that it’ll be sweet.
Your softness is what draws me in,
Again, and yet once again.
Like a giant bunny tail,
My love for you is sin.
Then, and only then,
Into dreams can I smoothly sail.

Birthday wishes,
Love,
Smooth kisses,
In my mind all these were shoved.
I will please you to say,
That I will return,
Eventually,
After this long day.
But remain as a fern,
Soft, potentially.
