    Cafe Writers' Open Poetry Competition

    Closing date: 30th November,2014.
    Prizes: £1,000, £300, £150, six £50 commendeds, £100 for the funniest poem not winning another prize, £100 for best entry from a Norfolk resident.
    Entry fee: £4, £10 for three, £2 each extra.
    For poems on any theme, up to 40 lines.

    Munsterlit Poetry Competition

    Closing date: 30th November,2014.
    Prizes: 1st prize of 1,000 Euro (on 7 October 2014 approx. USD 1263 or GBP 784) , publication in Southword Literary Journal, a trip to Cork, Ireland to read at the Cork Spring Poetry Festival, and a week-long writing retreat at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. Second prize: 500 Euro, third prize: 250 Euro. Ten runners-up: poems published and receive Southword'’s standard fee of E30.
    Entry fee: E5 per poem, or E20 for 5 poems. (UK writers: £5 per poem, or £20 for 5 poems.) Writers from countries outside Ireland & UK can pay via Paypal, which will convert their currency to Euro.
    Winning and commended authors will be published in Southword journal. This year's judge is poet Matthew Sweeney.

    Sentinel Literary Quarterly Poetry Competition

    Closing Date: 30th November,2014
    Details: For original, previously unpublished poems in English language, in any style, on any subject, up to 50 lines long.
    Eligibility: Poets of all nationalities living in any part of the world may enter this competition.

    Prizes: £200 (1st) , £75 (2nd) , £50 (3rd) , £20 x 3 (High Commendation) .

    The 2014 Joseph Brodsky/Stephen Spender Prize for the translation of Russian poetry into English is now open for entries. Please spread the word!

    Judged by Sasha Dugdale, Catriona Kelly and Glyn Maxwell, and now in association with The London Magazine, this biennial worldwide prize celebrates the long friendship between Joseph Brodsky and Stephen Spender as well as the rich tradition of Russian poetry. The prizes are: £1,500 (first) , £1,000 (second) and £500 (third) .

    The Book of Plans Hopes And Dreams

    The Tenth Annual Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize 2014

    A prize of £1,750 and publication by The Waywiser Press in the UK and the USA is given annually for a poetry collection by an author who has published no more than one previous poetry collection. The winner will give a reading at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C. in the autumn of 2015, where he or she will appear with the tenth contest's judge. Submit a manuscript of between 48 and 88 pages.

    Sillerman First Book Prize for African Poets Open

    The African Poetry Book Series is now open for submissions to the Sillerman First Book Prize. The winner receives USD $1000 and publication through the University of Nebraska Press and Amalion Press in Senegal. An " African writer" is taken to mean someone who was born in Africa, who is a national or resident of an African country, or whose parents are African. Poetry manuscripts should be at least 50 pages long. All entries will be read anonymously, and there is no fee to submit. We accept electronic submissions through Submittable only.
