ADEMIN KALBI HASTA
Ademin kalbi hasta sifasi Kur'andadir.
Ademin gönlü darda ferahi Kur'andadir.
Adem ölmek istemez çaresi Kur'andadir.
Adem yalniz edemez vekili Kur'andadir.
Adem ilimi sever, ilimi Kur'andadir
Adem övülmek ister degeri Kur'andadir.
Adem bir kerre dogar, Kue'ana göre ölür
Bu iki hal arasi neleri yasar, görür.
Adem neslini sorar, nesili Kur'andadir
Adem Yaradan arar, asili Kur'andadir.
Adem günlük islerle geçsinmenin derdinde
Ebedi saadeti yitirme gayretinde.
Adem hiç, hiç unutma, sinav yeri burasi
Bu dünyadan gider adem gelince sirasi.
Ademin tek ümidi sefati Muhammedin
Orhan sende kendine bunu gaye edin.

Considering the Snail
-Thom Gunn
The snail pushes through a green
night, for the grass is heavy
with water and meets over
the bright path he makes, where rain
has darkened the earth’s dark. He
moves in a wood of desire,
pale antlers barely stirring
as he hunts. I cannot tell
what power is at work, drenched there
with purpose, knowing nothing.
What is a snail’s fury?All
I think is that if later
I parted the blades above
the tunnel and saw the thin
trail of broken white across
litter, I would never have
imagined the slow passion
to that deliberate progress.

Yesterday, a supervisor of mine directed me to take down a bulletin board on which I posted student work that demonstrated their understanding of history through the medium of poetry. She said, " What does poetry have to do with history?" She went on to say that poetry is elementary and that poetry isn't rigorous. I vehemently disagree. What are your views?I do not wish to take down the work and I need supporting counter-arguments to her claims. Please respond.

It is a little disappointing to see such a narrow-minded response. Think Steve Turner 's 'History Lesson'. My first, and perhaps the strongest argument for an educator, is using Blooms Taxonomy. C ... more

I do agree with you. Poetry has been stereotyped by society, and it sad considering how little people know about it. Most people would easily sing along to a song but would never read a poem in their ... more

The Shared Poetry Project — inspired by this John Merrow blog entry:
http://takingnote.learningmatters.tv/?p=5454 — we'd like to invite public school students to film community members reciting lines of poetry, then edit the readings into a video for the Learning Matters YouTube channel. This exciting project provides students the opportunity to develop or strengthen real-world skills of teamwork, quality control, and production. It also can introduce the 80% of Americans who do not have school-aged children to the remarkable abilities of our youth. Not to mention exposes them to some great poetry!
