Henry L. Jones Biography

In winter of 2009, I published RUN INTO BLACKNESS: FEELING MY POETIC GUMBO (Pneuma Publishing International, Inc.) . This is my first book of poetry after years of seeing my poetry published in other work. RUN INTO BLACKNESS contains many poems I've written over the years about personal and historical experiences. I was the strange child with big brown eyes who looked deeply into a person's face. I became a man who now uses his eyes to see beyond the veil.)

Waiting By The Shore

I stare at myself in the mirror
Hoping to find the face of a child
Return that feeling of immortality
To ease my sore back and shoulders
Their stiffness tells me that Death’s
Passion will soon fill me with desire
To see another world where I will rest
Along some shore with only the memories
Of the loved ones who I left behind.

Their tears will fill the river which cools me
And become the pool to baptize my past
As a long dunk held by redemption and sorrow
I will rise breaking through the stream’s window
Leaving all twisted reflections behind
Shivering in cold, drenched with joy
The last time to wash my pain away
The water fills in the emptiness
While cascading off my skin.

Where is a towel to dry
My loved one’s mourning dew?
I turn and tell them
While wiping away their fears
With new hands of strength
Stop crying, stop crying
For I am reborn
waiting your arms and kisses
On this shore called Eternity.
