On a languid Summer's day,
The longing to climb the cumulus stairways
To the high blue portals of Elyseion.

Like ripples in an angel's wings
The rumours fly -
That there is Life in that abyss
Above we call the sky.

Oh, that a bright mind would never die,
Or a fair spirit never fly;
Love cannot keep you here, nor Earth retain,
And Time knows not how to heal a memory's pain.

You have seen the sunlight scatter jewels on the meadowgrass;
You have heard the trees lament the winds and whisper as they pass;
Who knows where tomorrow waits, or where was yesterday before:
Only that we are forever -

I feel the Love that moves the Earth,
That stirs the sea and blows the sand;
All of my days so sadly stand -
There is no ring upon my hand.

It's not for a child that I'm grieving,
No daughter, no son, not that;
But the memory I have that is sweetest -
The soul of a beautiful cat.

in soft white pads the snowflakes fall,
They build, they drift, they cover all,
So unaware that they caress
The little grave my warm tears bless.

A seagull's feather spirals
From the sky, and tells to me
