Darkness

The darkness creeps up quickly
Like on a cloudy winter's day
Upon you before you miss the light
Making it hard to find your way.

But this darkness it envelops you
and drags you to its hole
With the pain of all life's tragedies
Ripping at your soul.

Most can not see the sadness
That lays behind your eyes
nor see the pain behind the smile
Never hearing the muffled cries.

Sitting in your silent world
But you want to stand and scream
You swallow down the primal urge
and wonder what it means.

Love seems a thousand miles away
Even with your loved ones near
'No one needs you around'
The demon whispers in your ear

Within the dark, memories echo
of life's many failures and pain
The once feared thoughts of dying
Sound calming and so sane.

Within the darkness where you
Now live your pointless life
No one can recognize your pain
No one hears the battle's strife

Life moves past you in a blur
While your stuck standing still
Your mind seems rather helpless
as you begin to write your will.

Mistakes seem to grow and mount
and of people, you have no need
Dread grips its hand around your neck
and will not let you breathe.

That thread of life that you hold
seems heavy in your hands
Demise becomes the answer
as your mind it makes the plan.

The taking of your life
Is the only control you see
You can make all this stop
and you can finally be set free.

All the pain and frustrations
will all then go away
A hundred reasons to end it all
But seeing none to stay.

But every hole has an entrance
Every tunnel has its light
Dusk is always followed by dawn
every valley has a height.

Speak the words you do not say
There are many just like you
Get the healing that you need
What you are feeling is not true.

There are many that do love you
and so many more that care
Letting the darkness beat you
Just really isn't fair.

It's never a simple ending,
darkness creeps to a new host
Protect those you care about
the ones you love the most.

Go out into the sunshine
Get on your knees and pray
Reach out and get the help you need
Because death is not the way.
