Jeremy Rodgers Poems

In back-alley street
where every alley meets
in every corner of the world
everybody's popping pills.
...

Love is sign language,
it's not what you say,
or what you give,
it's how you act
...

Darkness falls down like a net
smothering those who've lost their breath
taking away their fading time
covering up their daylight
...

She was starving,
she was dying
stuck inside a nunnery
they wouldn't allow her
...

Kings sitting on top thrones of ivory
sheep with chunks of flesh missing
wool piled high in forgotten storerooms
overcome with greed but more by controlling them
...

She said, 'Won't you love me? '
I said, 'Give me a chance.'
She said, 'Love me even more.'
I said, 'Then take my hand.'
...

Yellow feathers,
a white dove
on the telephone line.
...

Javalinas,
wild boars
in the shadows
by the door
...

He knew what was in them
He knew they loved sin
His own chosen
burned babies to the Devil
...

What are we doing, wasting our life?
or is it even our life to waste?
These are the battlegrounds, my friends
or are you even my friends?
...

Dancing demons
on the pulpits
playing rock-n-roll,
dancing demons or Jesuits
...

K.J.V, obviously
compare them and you'll see.
J.T.C.'s 'Let's Weigh the Evidence'
makes it evident
...

'Woe to the pastors that destroy my flock
that teach evil is good and good evil'

I knew a pastor of a church
he didn't know adultery was wrong
...

All these empty bottles
Why don’t they leave a message?
Why don’t they ask for help?
Someone might find it
...

Sitting at the park watching the sunshine
listening to the birds singing in the trees above me
hearing picnickers laughing because it's safe
I smile too; summertime is here
...

They say you're only human
so you can sin a lot
but if you act like animals
then I guess you're not
...

I told her to stand, I told her to be strong
I wondered why she was crying, but didn't know I knew all along
it was me
...

Back-Alley Street

In back-alley street
where every alley meets
in every corner of the world
everybody's popping pills.
Why take drugs when you could love?
Why destroy the temple of God?
These are the battle fields
so they dope you up so you can't feel
so you can't tell what is real
but this is real, this is real
these are the battlefields.
In 'Charlie Brown, ' a Coldplay song,
we still glow in the dark
with broken hearts, broken hearts
forever in the dark
with broken hearts.
Let us shine,
let us see
take the needles
out of our veins
and pray
and escape
back-alley street.
