In a burger shop nearby,
I noticed in the corner seat
A young couple who caught my eye.

Like offering a fresh picked rose.

With my lights and music dim.
I asked the Lord to help me sleep
And dream things pleasing unto Him.

Are as different as day and night.

Without blaming myself?
How do I continue
Without shaming myself?

It ended as quickly as it began,
As winter turned to spring.
But through that winter I held your hand
And pushed you on the swing.

Like currents in the drifting sea,
The world and time flow by
Without taking note of me,
Without a wondering eye.

They prowl, they lurk and creep,
Waiting for me to fall asleep.
They love the hunt, love the chase
As they follow me place to place,

Lately I’ve been looking at life,
Thinking of how things came to be:
I’m married to a loving wife
Who has consumed all of me.

I need some air, some oxygen,
Maybe a walk would clear my head.
