If only I had known it,

Those words to fly,
That awful lie,

The Guilty Politician

If only I had known it,
I’d never have allowed,
Those words to fly,
That awful lie,
Right off in to the crowd.

And when the day is over,
And the night is drawing near,
My brain does quote,
That awful note,
Ringing crystal clear.

And as my heart beats faster,
Guilt starts to overflow,
I realise,
To my surprise,
It wasn’t the way to go.

If only I had known it,
I’d never have allowed,
Those words to fly,
That awful lie,
So selfishly and proud.
