A Love Sonnet

When the Night's darkness hides you
from my sight,
Like the bright Moon - devoured by
the Eclipse;
Lost is my heart's love, lost are you my
pride;
Lost is the smile and music of your lips.
From the edge of my life I fall and sink
-
Sink in the doleful sea of nothingness!
And then, forlorn and forsaken I think
Of my life without your heavenly grace!
Then after the night, with daybreak you
rise
Like the fair, lustrous Sun you shed
your rays
On me to cease the darkness from my
eyes;
And to reach Heaven you show me the
ways.
Yet, not for Heaven but for You I strive;
'Cause you - you lighten and brighten
my life!
