A Secret Love I Had

A secret love I had,
A lofty cloud ideal.
A sunny April smile clear
Although it was not real.
She held my mind and spirit up
With a bright tomorrow.
It was dizzy wine, a race in time,
A deadly, directed arrow.
It was inspiration, hopeless hope,
But it was never real.
A fevered furtive love lurked in me
That she would never feel.
Then suddenly I know:
'This ghost I pine for is a mere conception! '
And now I know what's real,
Now I truly see.
She is not what I craved to know.
I desire to fathom me!
