They sit and they squirm on hard, wooden chairs,
Engrossed in the secrets of sixty-four squares,
Shuffling and groaning and pulling their hairs

When the weeping muse has run out of tears
And the poet no longer has any ideas,
When slowly but surely your hope disappears
There's a friend who can help you in spite of your fears.

Wherever I go I can always hear
Them saying behind me 'He's a queer! '
Wherever I go I hear them say
'That guy's peculiar, he must be gay! '

The Mind Police came yesterday,
They kidnapped my friend and took him away,
Our house was untidy, the floor could have been cleaner,
And now he's been charged with schizophrenia.

Lord, forgive me for my pity
For the vagrant and the homeless.
I should have given them a home
Instead of indulging in my finer feelings.

I was running, running scared
When I realised you no longer cared,
Something had made you change your mind,
Your eyes were cold, your heart turned blind,

'He'll get over it in a couple of days'
Wasn't that what you said or some similar phrase?

When I get up early and when I go to bed
You're always on my mind, forever in my head.
Are you aware of the way I feel?
Have you taken any notice of the things I've said?

I had my lager and lime
And you had your vodka,
We were partners in crime!
Later the lager wasn't enough
...

Nowadays, quite often, I find myself thinking
That I might just as well go back to my drinking -
You'll never feel for me what I feel for you
Though I wanted so badly for you to love me too.
