When we were children we would go and play,
Outside without worry throughout the day.
We can no longer leave children unsupervised,
In a flash they can be gone before your eyes.

As the river flows deeply towards the horizon,
It glistens and shimmers reflecting sun.
I listen to the serene sound of the water running by,
Almost like tears flowing I can hear it cry.

Watching her sleep is such a peaceful sight
I lay there silently and watch her all night.
She lies there dreaming, about what, I can’t say
But here in her life is where I want to stay.

We all may have had our differences,
But we would put them all aside.
Because there were so many instances,
When any one of us could have died.
...

Would you forgive your enemy,
Even though they did you wrong?
Would you be able to let them be,
If it'll somehow make you strong?
...

They seem to think they're better than everyone,
And they torment other people just for fun.
Maybe it's because of their own low self esteem,
And for some reason think that this will redeem.
...

They stare at each other at a loss for words.
What could they say they haven’t already heard?
Neither one knows what they want to say,
And both of them want the other to stay.
...

I've been shot at and I've been stabbed,
And I've been nearly burned alive.
Yet somehow through all of this,
I have managed to survive.
...

The grass used to be a luscious green,
But now that beauty cannot be seen.
The ground and water have gone dry,
Because there is no moisture in the sky.
...

She's keeping the home fires burning,
While a dangerous living he is earning.
She has had so many sleepless nights,
While he's away fighting for our rights.
