Jonathan Karanja ['afro'] (Nairobi)
Biography of Jonathan Karanja
This poet was born on 19 August 1985 and he has lived in Nairobi, Kinangop and Maragua in the republic of Kenya (East Africa) . Karanja was educated at Moi Educational Centre for his primary education and at Starehe Boys' Centre for his secondary school education. He went the University of Nairobi, Kikuyu campus from October 2008 to July 2012. He is currently a teacher of Literature/English.

Swirling, white as foam, whoosh! swish!
Eddying, tossing and ebbing at every pull and push,
Of earth’s natural satellite, which around earth revolves,
So does the mighty ocean and her currents,
To moon’s gravitational pull respond as earth twirls,
Spinning, rotating on its own axis as the Great Deep swirls,
This same ‘Deep’ teems with many creatures,
Flying fish, octopus, saw-fish, plankton to name just a few,
Of these magnificent, abundant, lovely and resplendent,
