Joy Thacker Poems

After thirty years of working -
I thought I had it made -
I said to myself-
I'll lie in the shade-
I'll read half the day-
And sleep the rest-
...

Della and Dan had a big fight- -She caught him cheating- With her best friend one night- Della told Dan to get on his way- -And he'd better be gone before the break of day- Dan said goodbye- And slammed the door- Della told never- To come back anymore- Della never re-married- And neither did Dan- She was a happy single girl- He was a happy single mam.
...

If the good Lord's willing- And the creeks don't rise- I'll be at Church on Sunday- -If the good Lord's willing- And the creeks don't rise- I'll go to work on Monday- Good Lord willing- Good Lord willing- Good Lord willing- I'll still be around.
...

Heaven is a beautiful place- Where the sun shines every day- When we enter into Heaven's door- Our troubles will all fade away- The sun always shines in Heaven- No storn clouds will we see- The sun will always be shining-

Retirement Blues

After thirty years of working -
I thought I had it made -
I said to myself-
I'll lie in the shade-
I'll read half the day-
And sleep the rest-
My wife had the notion-
That she alone knew best-
She said mow the lawn-
And go and walk the dog-
You're lying around here-
Getting far as a hog-
My dreams of relaxation-
Went right up in smoke-
I found that retirement-
Was only a joke-
I'm really still working-
For the rest of my life-
The only difference now-
The boss is my wife.
