Kate Bauer Poems

When I was a boy, I sat and thought about
What would change when I grew old.
Would I sit on the porch with my old dog,
Bo or go to the store and shop?
...

When I look into the mirror I see myself.
I see my face, arms and hair.
I see the wrinkles showing years gone by.
I see my life's struggles in my eyes.
...

I am outgoing and independent
I wonder what will happen tomorrow
I hear the rain above me
I see the world spinning before my eyes
...

I hear secrets from little girls gossiping
I see families falling apart
I wonder if things will ever change,
Or if there will be a change of heart.
...

Today in America all we do is fight.
We are in foreign countries ensuring that things are right.
Soldiers are dying and planes are flying
To protect you and I
...

I was just in second grade on that awful September day.
I sat at home and wondered, but instead went outside
My mom and dad discussed and talked about the terrorists.
Confusion and frustration all throughout my head
...

Dance as you'd wish.
Sing as loud as you please.
Be your own person
That's the way it's supposed to be.
...

My mom and I are very close
She's just like my best friend.
I come home from school each day
And we talk about everything.

When I Was A Boy...

When I was a boy, I sat and thought about
What would change when I grew old.
Would I sit on the porch with my old dog,
Bo or go to the store and shop?
Would I spend some time with my
Grandkids or wife or would I not have any at all?

Now that I am old and grey, I have come to
Realize what is important.
I have my family and I have my health and
That is all I can be thankful for.
My old dog, Bo is gone now and yes, my
Wife is, too.
So, now all I can do is sit and think about
What I used to do.
