Origami Dreams

In the color scheme of
autumn dreams,
where the real people hide
we’ll cast our
paper fantasies
and watch them
come alive

the origami sinks
searching forever for
what was
and on the stage
they left to us
the curse of
wanderlust

there are shadows in our voices now
and mirrors in our eyes
and the pretty words
sweet chivalries
each set the clouds
alight

we can fall far away
from the thousand paper folds
where a million fears reside
beside nothing but the cold
it’s the saddest class of
tragedy
but we’re coming back
tonight

it’s the silver streams of
rain you need
not the chase
after a memory
that only melts away
with every turn of day
into the miasma
that whispers stay

where the suns are
paper lanterns and
the oceans are devoid
of sands

where the horizon sometimes
seems to be
the fence against
our enemies

there is nothing skies won’t show you
when they have everything to hide

and as the pages of our script
fly and fade into the night
the ship that was lost
so long ago to the sea
takes form as the winter
where i lost you to me

and a season on a string
gently lulls you to sleep
to the time of repression
when we both fell deep

but we are the wrong actors
on the wrong stage
and this will never be
the right play

i’ll paint you a ship
and sail it true
farther than the ocean
until it’s no longer blue
