L. Ward Abel Biography

L. Ward Abel is a life long poet and composer of music (releasing four CD’s with Abel & Rawls and as Max Able) and a founding member of Atlanta spoken-word-music pioneers Scapeweavel. Having returned to his roots in focusing on poetry as a primary emotional vehicle, he has again found fulfillment in this the most obscure of art forms. Abel lives in rural Georgia within sound of farm animals and the occasional distant jet roar. I walked through them
scratched my arms while going,
nettles briefly frightened as if stung,
great green sky a-hover
the smell of all but me

then I passed
away from those held deeply
away from anchors and focus
away from straw indeed

and slipped across
a pasture,
in the company
of that blueness.
