Do you know what it's like to be alone?
It's like a king without a throne
You sit and search through and through
Yet can find nothing to comfort you
...
I never thought when I said goodbye
That I would hurt so bad or cry so much
But for some strange reason I'll never know
Whenever I see you I begin to break down
...
You say you know what's best for me
But how could you know what that might be
You claim that I'm selfish and I don't care
But how do you know if you're never there
...
I see you
Do you see me
I hear every word you say
Do you listen to me
...
You sapped me of my creativity
Every single ounce
I have no inspiration
Not a clue what to write
...
They see beauty
I see pain
They see bubbly
I see depression
...
Drowning
So cliché
Everyone speaks of it
But do they really understand it
...
I'm missing you
Every beat
Of my fragile heart
Yearns for you
...
I wrote this as a symbol of freedom from the binds that love and beauty holds over so many people today. I named it Aphrodite after the Greek goddess of love and beauty, and used some parts of the myth of Aphrodite in the poem; such as the girdle, birth in foam, the Golden Apple and her symbol of the Pink Rose.
I break free of thee
Beauty and Love
...
Just a touch
Could fix it all
Calm my fears
Dry my tears
...
