We were so young and naive.

If I Die In Raleigh, At Least I Will Die Free

I was driving one night, without having too much to drink, through North Carolina.
I was reminiscing of what my life could have been.
It was really bright outside during the midnight hours.
Makes me wonder if I've witnessed god lately and thought he was going
to pay me a visit every month.
And maybe he would say to me 'Well, you screwed up more than once of
what you could handle'.
It wasn't the first of his kind words to being brought up previously.
As I would think that maybe one day,
If I die in Raleigh, at least I will die free.
A free man once again.

One time when I visited a friend of mine in New England,
I wasn't aware that a lovely tune that he was playing for me
would be stuck in my head for a few hours.
I imagine myself playing the guitar and banjo and
Pretending I was performing a song involving a string band
that could easily win any naive lover's heart.
Unlike the people from the northern side that always gets me down,
I resolved my frustrations through gambling and winning every part of the
game each night.
And if I could live a filthy rich life and leaving my poverty past behind,
I would think that maybe yeah, it would be a dream come true.
However, it will take the effort to know what you want for the better.
I know that one day,
If I die in Raleigh, at least I will die free.
A free man once again.

I was walking around the south side of the town.
And I had a friendly conversation with a guy working at a truck stop.
He's a pimp to a well known prostitute around the truck stop
And he's planning on marrying her in Natchitoches, LA.
He knows his better luck and I was wondering about mine also.
I would think that maybe one day,
Just one day with all things that's being carefully considered.
That If I die in Raleigh, at least I will die free.
A free man once again.
