My Alcohol-Abusing Dad Said 'I Love You.'

After thinking about it,
my dad said 'I love you.'
In my mind, the words formed
red and white wine-colored icicles
down his chin.
The voicemail was made at around one a.m.
so it must have been a new year's resolution
that he wanted to check off right away
so he could show everybody.

Parents, You'Re Sacked

When I asked you for warmth,
you got angry that I said you were cold.
When I wrote you long letters,
you replied with a short email.
When I told you you had a drinking problem,
you pretended nothing was said at all.
The personnel department in my head
has decided to sack you both.
