The Charm Of Desire

Where have I woken up to this time?
I rolled and snarled at my assault, and
It felt like a minute ago I had expired.
Thoughtless and empty was the infinite break.
Perhaps with pulsing snores as the night shrunk.
Then a pinch and a voice: and I dawned with scorn.
Wishing this was beyond: where I desired.
But his sweet smile showed miseries untold.
Presently, the hours dragged but my mind stuck
On the ancient plot to triumph over life's punk
Thirsting for death like a lost mule in the desert.
All too soon, the immortal sun went to rest.
Grieved with desire; my mortal frame hosted fever.
My heart felt the dryly cold grip of the unknown afar,
And renegaded fear woke an aeon sober doubt.
I shivered the toss of the die with mundane lust.
