The Cold Snap

'Cold Snap' the News reader said
The worse for thirty years
Bringing the country to a halt
Stay in until it clears


Beware cars in snowy graves
If you have to travel then plan
Take warm clothing, food and drink
Avoid hazardous routes if you can


Children laugh with such delight
No school today they shout
As parents knock up a sleigh
And snowballs are flicked about


Look out for elderly neighbours
Either warmth or food is their choice
While the fat cats feed their faces
And the cold old lose their voice


For the winter brings winners and losers
As the robin sings in his tree
And the milk and letters pile up
At the door of number three
