Maggie DeMay Poems

Tonight
the very first firefly
of the season
flew into my yard
...

A tingle starts
with a touch
hands soft on my skin
touching, teasing
...

The winds howled
with the screams of a million
murdered trees
...

Full moon high in the sky
fog coming in
breaking like waves
against the hills and fences
...

No one remembers the soldier
once a hero
now
another old warrior
...

One perfect moment
one tick of the clock
encased in amber
sealed forever
...

I dreamed once
that mangos were growing
on the magnolia
while underneath the wisteria
...

Once
a long time ago
I asked
'what the hell
...

We put on the uniform
all became one
lost in the formation
boots on the ground
...

Fairy Lights

Tonight
the very first firefly
of the season
flew into my yard
and danced in circles
around the shrine
of the Holy Mother
a tiny fairy light
gleaming in the darkness
there were
no falling stars
so
I made a wish
upon my little fairy light
and sent it onward
into heaven
fairy lights
dancing
