Mariann Gentile Poems

1.

Day by day, I wake alone, in a cold and empty bed,
Day by day, thoughts of you, keep running through my head.
I wake and wish this day would be the one I see your smile
I sit and wait to see your face, I'm living in denial.
...

When I first looked into your eyes you swept me off my feet.
Whenever I was by your side it made me feel complete.
The first time that I saw you smile the world felt so surreal,
And when your held my hand in your my heart learned how to feel.
...

When clouds are gathered overhead, and rain falls from the sky,
You are my umbrella, that keeps me warm and dry.

When I and down and lonely, feeling I have gone astray,
...

I feel trapped - caged like a wild beast
Unable to move, unable to breath
Unable to break free and be the wild animal I truly wish to be
My path is chosen by those around me
...

A spark ignites within me, setting my heart ablaze,
And I no longer can pretend, that this is just a phase.
Flames threaten to engulf me, every time I see you face,
And every time I hear your voice, my heart begins to race.
...

6.

Why can't you see me
Right here in front you
Screaming, Crying
Praying you will notice me
...

Your eyes, like two pools of water, gaze for a moment into mine,
I feel a strange sensation coming over me and I am gone from this place,
My feet lift off the ground and the world around us disolves,
Your eyes glisten like two bright stars, lighting up my once dark heart.

Alone

Day by day, I wake alone, in a cold and empty bed,
Day by day, thoughts of you, keep running through my head.
I wake and wish this day would be the one I see your smile
I sit and wait to see your face, I'm living in denial.

Because I know that there's no way that I'll see you today,
And as the sun begins to set, my hopes will slip away.
As darkness covers this cruel world, my heart grows darker too,
And I will whisper to the night how much I long for you.

The stars begin to twinkle, lighting up the sky above,
But the only light I long to see is the light of your love.
I pray tomorrow is that day that I'm holding you tight,
As in my cold and empty bed, I stare alone into the night.

For me, 'Alone' is a good poem; convincing and touching.

I was once taught by an Oxford Don that some of the worst poetry was written with the sincerest intentions!
