I am too old to play with dolls
Or dress up in mothers' clothes
Too old by far to make mud pies
Or fancy castles made of sand

I had a dream
Of going to school, making friends
And the dream came true, eventually

Three times the man has been to fix it
Yet if the wind blows more than a puff

Against the blue black of the evening sky
Flies a black cloud of hundreds
Of small feathered bodies, all of one mind
That turn and twist in stunning aerial acrobatics

Two inquisitive people came to my house
Invesigated the dining room and the lounge
Tipped the cushions on the floor and emptied the bins
Before going into the bathroom to discover towels

Three dragon brothers, gold, red and green
Decided one winter, they would make Christmas dinner
Inviting their sister, her current mate and two offspring
Thinking it would be easy and fun

Twelve little daffodils were
The only flowers to be seen
Their yellow trumpets nearly dwarfed
By their tall green leaves

How powerful we humans are
Look at all our achievements
Since we first learnt to walk upright
And it is said that if a man

As evening drew on into night
The rat, the cat, the bat and the owl
Left by the window that opened without a hand
To go about their business

Though Autumn is upon us
