What we once had
Is forever lost.
The distance between us
That at once seemed mere miles
...

I'm trying to break out of this cage-
To eviscerate from myself the pain so deeply embedded.
They cannot see this rogue part of me
That is now just a kernel of my being.
...

Like the wind needs the trees to feel its touch as it blows from above
And the rain needs the flower to rest upon after its journey,
So my soul needs you to love.
...

You don't know of which trees I've made my nest,
Of the cold breeze that has brushed my wings.

You don't know of sunshine's sweet warmth
...

Wave after wave…
Rippling along, rolling.
Don't stop, or you'll be tossed away.
...

I started running too fast,
Leaving You behind.
Going about my life
Never having You in mind
...

I'm tired of defending my sin;
I'm done making excuses for the places I've been.

I don't want to live this way any longer.

Maybe it's just a moment,
Maybe it will pass.

Maybe it's forever,
...

I'll be here when the rain starts falling,
When you're scared and you don't know where to turn.
I'll hold you tight when you're afraid
And listen closely when you tell me of your worries.
...

The dusk has been our covering;
For many years we've turned away,
Blind to the echo, the boom of
Truth that is pressing through, demanding our attention.
...

I let the thorn fester,
It had become part of me.

I thought to pry it free,

Shipwrecked

What we once had
Is forever lost.
The distance between us
That at once seemed mere miles
Is now a great gulf-
An ocean separating us.

We drift further with each wave
Spilling over our souls.
The current carries you closer to the shore
As I flow deeper, deeper into this sea
That we did not create.

We tried to save each other-
I threw a lifeline and you pulled us both under.
Choking, gasping for air we rose from the deep
Just as another wave towed me away.
You reached out for me but the force was too great:
We needed a strength neither of us possessed.

I feel your voice tugging at my heart
At night when I hear you calling across the waters;
I think you hear me, too
As we paddle blindly on this midnight sea.
